Job Description

OVERVIEW

We are looking for a dynamic, hands-on networking engineer to support global network engineering and operations for the world’s 2nd largest CDN who will fully embrace the Company’s exciting journey and vision ahead.

As the business and product portfolio continues to grow, your role will extend beyond just the provision of Corporate IT but will also involve supporting the revenue-generating services of the business.

As a network engineer, you will cooperatively support our 160+ POP network with dozens of ISPs across the globe, including, but not limited to, POP build out and redesign, BGP optimization, ISP coordination, and daily operations. 

Candidates will have demonstrated BGP network management experience for a large, geographically-distributed network, a strong understanding of network operational standards and best practices, hands-on troubleshooting skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, experience working with other teams (especially service operations and engineering), and the desire to employ those skills in a fast-paced, dynamic, 24x7x365, mission-critical environment. 

The successful candidate will work collaboratively within our close-knit EMEA offices, headquartered in London.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Network Operations

  • Support BGP and IGP network operations, including device, network, and traffic troubleshooting and administration 
  • Support day-to-day service operations in the Americas and globally
  • Co-work with network and other operational teams in other regions (US, China, Japan, Korea) 
  • Work with ISPs and IDCs to build/operate/optimize our network efficiently 

Planning and Project Management

  • Support network improvement project implementation
  • Build POPs and support new product launches 
  • Support creation and improvement of global standards, policies, and procedures for reliable operations  

Other Responsibilities

  • Provision of desktop support as and when required

Job Requirements

REQUIREMENTS

Required

  • BS or equivalent in a technical discipline 
  • 4+ years’ experience designing and administering a large-scale, highly-distributed service network for 24x7 production, preferably for revenue generation and not enterprise support 
  • 2+ years’ hands-on experience configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting a BGP network with 5-10 POPs/locations 
  • Strong knowledge of Internet protocols (TCP/IP, VPN, etc.) and Ethernet troubleshooting tools and methods (Wireshark, tcp dump, etc.) 
  • Demonstrated expertise with layer 3 routing (e.g., OSPF) and layer 2 switching (e.g., VLAN, spanning tree, etc.) 
  • Working knowledge of enterprise networking tools (e.g., Splunk, Thousand Eyes) and processes (change management, incident management, etc.) in a cloud services environment 
  • A detail-oriented, process-focused, and inquisitive nature 
  • High-bandwidth, self-motivated self-starter who works well with minimal supervision
  • Prior desktop support experience
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and teamwork skills 
  • Willingness to travel as needed (<10% travel expected)

  • Experience with peering 
  • CCNA, CCNP, or other networking certification
  • Experience working with big companies (for process/structure) and small companies (for hands-on/agility)
