Job Snapshot

Job Description

CDNetworks is looking for an experienced, hands-on networking engineer to support global network engineering and operations for the world’s 2nd largest CDN.

This is not Corporate IT! You will be supporting revenue-generating services, not staff.

As a network engineer, you will cooperatively support our 160+ POP network with dozens of ISPs across the globe, including, but not limited to, POP build out and redesign, BGP optimization, ISP coordination, and daily operations.

Successful candidates will have demonstrated BGP network management experience for a large, geographically-distributed network, a strong understanding of network operational standards and best practices, hands-on troubleshooting skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, experience working with other teams (especially service operations and engineering), and the desire to employ those skills in a fast-paced, dynamic, 24x7x365, mission-critical environment.

Network Operations

  • Support BGP and IGP network operations, including device, network, and traffic troubleshooting and administration
  • Support day-to-day service operations in the Americas and globally
  • Co-work with network and other operational teams in other regions (China, Japan, Korea, Europe)
  • Work with ISPs and IDCs to build/operate/optimize our network efficiently

Planning and Project Management

  • Support network improvement project implementation
  • Build POPs and support new product launches
  • Support creation and improvement of global standards, policies, and procedures for reliable operations

With the recent consolidation with China NetCenter, CDNetworks is the world's 2nd-largest full-service Content Delivery Network (CDN). 1,000’s of top world-wide companies in multiple industries — including Gaming, Media/Entertainment, Social Networking, Software/Technology, e-Commerce, e-Learning and Enterprise — trust CDNetworks to provide reliable content delivery, security services, and many other content services at blazingly fast speeds. By delivering this performance on demand, CDNetworks eliminates costly IT infrastructure buildout and technical staffing costs for our customers.

  • Work on the 2nd largest CDN on the planet with smart people developing next-generation CDN technology and having a great time doing it
  • Help to build next-generation CDN services and our new (soon-to-be released) platform, not sitting in meetings for hours or producing reports
  • Competitive salary and health benefits

Job Requirements

  • BS or equivalent in a technical discipline
  • 3+ years’ experience designing and administering a large-scale, highly-distributed service network for 24x7 production, preferably for revenue generation and not enterprise support
  • 2+ years’ hands-on experience configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting a BGP network with more than 10 POPs/locations
  • Strong knowledge of Internet protocols (TCP/IP, VPN, etc.) and Ethernet troubleshooting tools and methods (Wireshark, tcpdump, etc.)
  • Demonstrated expertise with layer 3 routing (e.g., OSPF) and layer 2 switching (e.g., VLAN, spanning tree, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of enterprise networking tools (e.g., Splunk, Thousand Eyes) and processes (change management, incident management, etc.) in a cloud services environment
  • A detail-oriented, process-focused, and inquisitive nature
  • High-bandwidth, self-motivated self-starter who works well with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and teamwork skills
  • Willingness to travel as needed (<10% travel expected)

  • Experience in CDN technologies/services (DNS, caching, live streaming, etc.)
  • Experience with anycast
  • Experience with peering
  • CCNA, CCNP, or other networking certification
  • Experience working with big companies (for process/structure) and small companies (for hands-on/agility)
